Hello Everyone,

I have been given the task of selecting a camera for my Step-Daughter in Law. She has a 3yr old and a 1.5yr old. We are meeting them at Disney this coming weekend and their camera JUST DIED! My Husband wants to get them a camera for the trip and wants me to buy it.

Obviously, they need something that will get great shots of active babies: one that is user friendly, ready when they are, doesn't have a long delay so they don't miss the shot, good for outdoor/indoor/events/Disney/around home/etc

I would like it make great prints. Video capability is not a necessity as they have a video camera capable of also making still prints.

I think something relatively compact is in order. Something that fits into a diaper bag/backpack.

My Husband suggested I give her my Rebel XT but, I don't think a "mother on the go" needs to deal with swapping lenses and something that bulky.

Any suggestions you could give me would be great.

I've looked at the Canon PS SX100 IS but I think it seemed slow.
Consumers likes the Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 IS...I have no experience outside of Canon...

Consumers second choice was the Canon PS S5 IS

Sorry so long, I just hate having to select a camera for someone else and this all important FIRST trip to Disney for the babies! UGH!

I really enjoy my Canon A630:)
I did a lot of research, and wanted something that would fit basically the criteria you mentioned. It is fast, easy to use, and small enough to fit into a diaper bag or purse(but not tiny pocket sized). The batteries also last forever. The only reason I considered getting a different one is for a longer zoom, but so far I have found the A630 to meet my needs as a mom of 2 little kids who wants to take a good picture but doesn't always have time to fool around!
Good luck and have fun in Disney!

J.~ enjoying the view:)
I got my A630 for free, I love it! (external link)

I have recently bought the Canon a720is and have been amazed at what it can do for no more than what it cost. ($196.00 at circuit city.com). It has all the features that you seem to be looking for but is capable of somewhat more advanced photography if she ever feels the urge. I think its a great little camera that would be hard to beat for the price.
