Can you make a good edit with elements?

I have elements at home, but I don't believe you can work with layers. They have RAW tuning. But how would you make the eye's really 'pop' if you can't work with layers (besides getting a perfect exposure with great lighting!)

You can definitely work with layers in elements. You have to make sure you are in the full edit mode not the quick edit mode.

Here's a few articles about layers from Popular Photography (and they even mention using Elements to do it too!)

A couple of these are tutorials, or beginners guides to layers... the only way you learn to use them is practice... even if its not on one of your own pictures, or what your final goal is, working through a tutorial will help you learn the tools and what they do.

Here's a tutorial on making teeth whiter and adding "pop" to eyes.

If you want to use layer masks you will need to get a plug in. Layer masks do work on adjustment layers but not duplicate layers etc.
