I'd concur with the ID. I'd be interested to know what settings you used as the photos look a little dark on my monitor. They seem very clear but a tad dark.

Another thing that I have learned that is good not to have your subject dead centre of the photo so you may want to experiment with your cropping.

Think you've made a good start though so keep trying. You're living in a great area to get some wonderful images. :D

Thansk Sherly i am new to this but i believe my settings were off which led to my underexposed photos. they we all taken at:
ISO 100 at 200mm f/4.0 and at 1/2000sec
i appreciate the reply

Welcome to POTN and other than the underexposure these are all very good.....be careful taking pictures of birds can become very addicting, but a whole lot of fun too :) Keep up the good work.

Osprey, Tri colored Heron, and Common Moorhen. Same family as the Gallinule. Nice shooting

Nice shots indeed! Looks like the sun is setting in the first two.

3rd one is really cool looking, the green water makes a really interesting BG :)
Like a painting! Welcome and look forward seeing more.

Only because you asked... Most of these shots can be improved with a little more time spent in post processing.. They could all be exposed a little brighter in the initial shooting, but post processing will bring them up... Your shots are focused very well, and the 70-200 is a very nice sharp, and fast focusing lens.. These were quickly gone through with Photoshop CS2, using levels adjustment, Unsharp Mask, a touch of contrast, and brightness adjustment, and noise reduction to help reduce the noise caused by the under exposures.. The processing I have done is not perfect by any measure as I just went quickly over each shot, but it demonstrates the flexibility you have to improve every shot you take. We all use it to some degree.... Take care....Alex

To clarify Common Gallinule is the same as a Common Moorhen - same bird, different names.
