That is a great idea. I have a collection of photos that I have saved to my hard drive. When I see a pose I want to use sometime I save for later study it but I have not printed any yet.

Great minds think alike! :) I started one of these (though I didn't know what to call it) when I started building on my studio. It has proved to be a wonderful help when I have what I call a "brain fart". :) And like you mentioned it really helps when you're dealing with a model that needs help posing. I have a stack of fashion magazines to go through right now.

This is a bandwagon I want to be on; great idea - just hope they don't think I'm weird for always carrying scissors...

Don't people ask why you don't use your own photos in the swipe file? Or as you use each pose do you replace it with your own photo? To me that would be more impressive for a client.

I was just thinking you could replace the "other" photos with your own as you get poses nailed down. then you can show the client the pose, and remark that it's one of your own shots. Keep at it, and you can compile a whole book of poses; all your own work.

I've been doing it for the past few years, its very helpful. Clients really don't care, they care about outcome and I keep a portfolio of shots for them to see that I've tried and liked. If I come across a pose I like but don't work for me personally after I've tried it, I drop it.
But I too have various categories, baby, infant, children (yes all different depending on age), seniors, families, siblings, etc etc. Actually I started it about 3 years ago when I was trying to research some good bridal portrait poses for my BIL and SIL's photos...and it just took off from there.
And I've noticed its a lot easier for clients to see a pose and do it than me trying to explain it.
