Photoshop batch issue

My action

I am not an expert, but here goes. If I read your action corectly you want to process a folder of files. For that to work you need to "Overide Action Open Commands" and "Suppress File Open Options Dialogs"

That didn't help. The issue is with saving.

Duh (mine) you are doing a "Save" which will always save to the same name. Do a "Save As" in your action and then batch can adjust the file name.

That is 'Save A' . 'Save' would save that file, not create a new one.

To my knowledge batch cannot "Save" to the same file it opened. Hence the check box "Override Actions Save As Commands". Why don't you try it?

You need to add a Save As to the action for a start (don't change the name), and I'd add a Close for good measure. If you're going to use it as a droplet, they get fussy!

Then create the droplet as you did in the first screenshot, and I'd hope it'd work.

(When you ticked 'Override Action Save As Command' and there isn't one, it doesn't do anything at all. And if you put it on Save and Close but don't tick that, it asks for a Jpeg Quality each time, which is why the Save As in the action sets it.)

Victoria, the only problem I have is with the Save As step. How do I tell the action to record over the exisiting file and not to a different folder? I haven't figured that out yet.

Open any old file, File > Save As, don't change anything in that dialog so that it overwrites the original, hit ok, choose the quality, and ok. That should do the trick.

I'm not entirely sure why that wouldn't work in LR but does work with the files themselves, as LR should be just doing the equivalent of dropping the files on. Maybe it's a little fussy about having a save available. What happens if you just drop the original files (not contained in a folder) onto the droplet?

I wonder what happens if you leave the droplet in its original location, and drop the files on it there...? There was a weird bug with certain Macs a while back, that a droplet wouldn't work until it had been copied to a different location.... odd!

Sorry, this post is more questions than answers, and droplets work perfectly on my mac!

Ok, try this... follow me closely....

Open image
Start recording new action
Filter > UnSharp Mask 150/1/0 > Ok
Filter > UnSharp Mask 20/25/1 > Ok
File > Save As > hit Ok. Do not change anything whatsoever.
Jpeg Quality Box > set Quality and hit Ok.
File > Close
Stop recording

To create droplet:
Fill in dialog exactly as screenshot below, obviously with different named action!

HTTP response: 404 | Byte size: ZERO

Make sure you set the Save to Save and Close and tick Override Action Save As.

Drop a set of images onto that resulting droplet to check if it works. And then let me know!

Skip the save step in the action, and use Bridge: Tools > Photoshop > ImageProcessor.
Way easier. Saves to a new folder.

The image processor works. I used Photoshop > File > Scripts > Image processor. The only issue is there's no way to change the name, right? I just have to the batch rename in bridge, right?

you could also try using a "droplet"

Did using "save as" with "override save" ticked? I do it all the time, from batch not image processor, it works fine.

Yep..I've always been doing that. Since I got CS3, I've had the issue. I tried the action in Photoshop 7 and had same issue (it used to work). That's weird...

I just read about droplets. I'll try it some time.

Since my action includes, pasting an image...how would I make it work as a droplet? I could have it open the file, to copy in the action, but that would waste time. Would it work if I copied the image and had it on my clipboard, then used used the droplet?

I'd assume this 'pasted image' is a watermark?
Not sure if it would work (since I don't know your watermark), but you might want to have a look at Russel Brown's"Digital Watermark Branding'
It's in the CS2 section. Also works on both horizontal and vertical images
