Hi guys...just wondering what the difference between these two printing styles is. I know gloss is shiny like normal photos and matt is dull. There are some oher finishes like semi gloss etc.

Which one is closest to the finish that you get from posters that you buy in shops?

Thanks for your help... :)

Most vendors can offer a choice. Nature or technical I go with gloss, people luster or semi-gloss. Matter of taste really...

For photos that will be passed around I always get "luster", probably also called semi-gloss.

For actual posters I usually go with matte.

I like luster, but my lab doesn't offer it (though I've offered to buy a roll for them just for my proofs and that might happen for wedding season). I always print matte because it doesn't stick to glass when it's frames and doesn't show fingerprints (unless they're very greasy).

Glossy always looks cheap to me, and while they can make a great picture look amazing, it usually makes an OK picture look terrible.

I can understand. To some one that doesn't deal with photos on an average basis, glossy = expensive looking.

I always got with matte. I've never encountered a situation where I wanted a glossy print. Matte just looks amazing to me when you have a good photo printed out.

Luster. Glossy looks cheap to me for some reason.

I'm sorry if this is newbie question but

Luster = Matte?

If not, could you tell me whats the main differences?

I just ordered 200 sheets of glossy and I am already regreting it. :mad:
