I primarily use the MK3 with my 70-200 which I calibrated at +1. Now i'm going to have to experiment with it at -1 and see if somehow that improves a not too bad performance already. All very confusing.
I wish I could get Canon Japan to select a body for me.

I had that feeling Rob and I predict another firmware will definitely bring the MK III to where it's suppose to be. I'm just hoping for the better. :);)

I suspect the report will say "better, but...."

The "but" will be that the MKIIn is still faster at initial acquisition and in many cases better at tracking objects moving towards or away from the camera tan the MKIII. If you want killer AF performance, get an MKIIn...if you can live with slower AF and the missed shots that go with it but have better IQ...especially at high ISO...get an MKIII.

There...I got my prediction in..... :p

I am curious to see what his final report will be as it obviously contains some "issues" or he would not have given Canon a chance to defend themselves before he goes public.

Well, my prediction was pretty close then.

My second experince with the MKIII was better (blue Dot, good S/N & 1.1.3) but still not as good as what I have gotten used to with the MKIIn. Hopefully they'll get it right in the end, but I am still on the sidelines with this one.

I think we all owe RG a big "Ata Boy" for everything he did on this....and for what? A little bit of fame? I doubt he got paid......

Yes...I saw that...(and I am afraid to post in that thread...CDS has a hair trigger over there :D)

I hope that helps.

For me the difference in AF Acquisition and tracking was very slow compared to my MKIIn. Shooting them side by side was remarkable. After 15 minutes with the IIN the III was noticeably slower.

Flipping through them in Aperture was almost funny. I literally would be cruising through going OOF, OOF,OOF (by ALOT)....then get a series of really crisp shots and look down and I had switched cameras to the MKIIn...I am sure I had a bad MKIII (again) but Micro Adjustments would not fix what I saw.

In the end, I think folks switching from an MKIIn may see a difference....others maybe not so much. Whether that is acceptable or not is up to you.....:)

I agree.........IQ in general look better on the MKIII. The shots I had in focus were much nicer with the MKIII than my MKIIn. ISO 1600 was superb. But the AF speed difference was more than I personally could justify....but that's just me.

After nearly 6 months, I've just upgraded from 1.0.8 to 1.1.3!
I have a decent copy, well at least to me it seems that way! (serial = 508026)

Never once had Err 99, or misfocus issues.

... and considering it's dark and can't test anything - just reviewed images on card, and they look way sharper.. - I know that will be a previous update, but that's pretty cool
