was trying to come up with a christmas list for myself and wouldn't mind getting a subscription to a photography mag. Just wondering what you guys currently have and if there is a "king" of magazines for photogs.

I'm interesting in LEARNING about photography from these magazines, so I don't want them to be just about all the newest/upcoming gadgets that I can't afford

thanks for any tips :)

I just got Shutterbug since it is cheap with 20$ a year. Not bad. But I prefer to go to B&N and buy the british mags since they come with disks and tutorials. They do cost between 9$ - 15$ each though.

I just found this website, would anyone agree with their rankings of the listed mags?

To me, Popular Photography is the best. But that's only because I got my subscription for free.

Seriously, I do really like the magazine. I'll be interested to see what others say about the magazines out there.

Photo Techniques (external link) is a very nuts and bolts magazine and covers both film and digital. One of my favorites, filled with articles and not advertising.
Outdoor Photographer (external link) is also very good, but the back half of the mag is advertising.
I prefer PC Photo (external link) to Shutterbug (external link), mainly for the tutorials on PP.
Hope that helps :D

I'll throw another vote out there for PC Photo. I subscribed about a year ago and find it very informative and many useful PP tutorials are in each issue.

Playboy.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I LOVE the UK based Practical Photography magazine. I've learned a lot of stuff that I actually use from it, everything from techniques for different shooting styles, gear, shoot ideas, to Photoshop techniques.

Rangefinder hands down. It helps that its free for pros, but never have I seen a magazine with better content and less ADitorials. Most US mags are junk, just paid advertisements about gear or shoots the avg person will never have the opportunity to do.

Been getting Outdoor Photographer (external link) for a number of years. Great magazine and almost always some good stuff in there every month.
I also subscribe to Photo Techniques (external link) and it's also a very good magazine. Only comes out bi monthly and it's a little thin but always very helpful with "Photo Techniques"!

Occasionally pick up some others at the bookstore but nothing I want to subscribe to.
