Here is the first portrait I have taken on my Canon 40D with a speedlight flash. Any tips, comments, opinions will be welcome.

Great photo... I would try to clone out the bobby pin in her hair so it doesn't stand out and maybe dodge the left eye (her right) a little bit to lighten it up some. Nice work.

Great picture..

Try different backgrounds, or ad some mood to it.
Her very light skin tone, almost matches the background in certain spots.
Maybe try a little less light?

Its just food for thought... i am no pro,

Great shot...
I agree with TomTom, I think less light would make the shot.
Perhaps even pulling back from the shot just a tad and perhaps even try some colored lighting but be very subtle.
