I'm considering buying a 17-40 L or maybe just an ultra wide prime. I'd like some feedback on people who have both L and non L and have found a keeper.:D

Difficult choice sigma 17-70 or sigma 10-20 both equally good,on balance the 10-20 as I will probably get rid of the 17-70 for an L

Not sure what "the best" would reference, but probably the most used is the 17-55.

Canon 7D, 5D, 35L, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8, 135L, 200L, 10-22, 17-55, 70-300, 100-400L, 500D, 580EX(2).
Sigma 150 macro, 1.4X, 2X, Quantaray 2X, Kenko closeup tubes, Yongnuo YN685(3), Yongnuo YN-622C-TX. Lots of studio stuff.

My best non-L is the 50 f/1.4. I forgot to mention it's my only non-L! ;)

Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

This one is easy for me (since I don't own L....I'm not rich enough to buy the Ls I want).

A toss up between my Tamron 17-50 or my 50mm 1.8.

I'm sure my 10-22 I'll be getting next week will join this category fairly quickly.

17-55 IS. followed by sigma 10-20. followed by sigma 30 1.4, canon 85 1.8, canon 50 1.4. I find the first two nearly flawless, focusing and optical characteristics. sigma 30 is soft in the corners, canon 85 has purple fringing wide open, and canon 50 is slightly soft wide open.
