Well after months of hearing how awesome this lens is I sold my 70-300 f4-5.6
to help cover some of the cost of the L lens!

Thanks to Irish1 I was able to save an extra hundred dollars with a coupon code, along with the canon rebate the total was a cool $1474.00 plus shipping from B&H. Not too bad since my local store wanted almost 1900.00 for it!

Thanks to all here for your great info, it has really helped.

I picked up one last night as well. I've had a chance to do some work with it, and it seems to shoot clean, and quite nicely. I was willing to pay a little more to stay with a local shop, but I can understand the desire to hit B&H. I used to use them for pretty much everything, and still do for many items.

ETA- This ends up being the most I've spent on a lens, and in large part my willingness to do so was based off many of the comments I've read here (long time lurker).

I rented this lens about 9 months ago, and the price being 1474+shipping is quite tempting. I'm close to buying it.

My POS Sigma 70-300 just doesn't cut it for tele below f8 or f11.

I'm jealous. Congrats :)

Grats, that will be my lens one day. I still haven't taken my sigma 70-300 out for a spin yet.
