After quite a bit of homework, I ordered myself a 50mm f/1.4 lens from B&H. I am very anxious to give it try on some portraits. Living in Alaska, I didn't think I'd ever be taking portraits but I seem to be getting asked more and more for exactly that! Guess I can look at it this way, it's alot warmer inside this time of year! Merry Christmas to everyone!!

Very good purchase. I purchased mine from B&H and I love it. I am sure that you will as well.

that'll be my next lens purchase, right after I get over the impact of getting my much sought after 40D + battery grip, EF 16-35mm f/2.8L mkII

have fun with that lens, i've tried it for my local pj work and the sharpness is unreal at f/2 and still great at f/1.4-1.8

Picked up mine today, hope it's a good one and at least reasonably sharp at 1.4

all the copies i've used at my paper have been good. All of them were, "reasonably sharp," at f/1.4 (at least for photojournalism work) and amazingly sharp at f/1.8+

Which is probably why it is a good idea to not say it's a Christmas present for yourself :D Just say you were going to buy it anyway and by coincidence, you received it around Christmas Day...
