..... I am looking into FF next year, and if you work it out Dollar for Dollar and IQ ETC. the Nikon D3 for the UWA FF use looks pretty appealing ........

Then there is no problem -- buy the one that is the most appealing to you. After all, it is only a tool ........ isn't it? ;)

Canon and I have a mutual understanding -- I don't worry about their bottom line and they don't worry about mine. That's not to say that they aren't interested in tapping into my resources. I also occasionally "invest" in a new toy from them. :p

I'm tired of buying Canon cameras and having the error code 99. I used Nikons in the past and converted to Canon about three years ago but I'm becoming frustrated with customer support and error code 99.

I just don't get it, I've shoot canon for years. I change glass often and have NEVER had an er 99 on either the 20d, 30D, 40D, 5d, 1dMKII, 1dMKIIN, or 1dMKIII....

So I've owned every camera since the 20d with the exception of a 1ds and NEVER had an er99...

I always wonder what is happening with those who have these issues. I shoot new and used glass as well as rented glass and just don't have issues..

Me either, guess I've neen lucky, think I'm on my 5th body. Canon, Nikon, whatever. we get so caught up in it, not saying it isn't easy to, if you let it. I'm really happy with Canon. everything I've purchased, new and used, has been really really great. I just bought my 3rd copy of the 24-70 (this time I'm keeping it) and I expect that it will be just as good as the other two I bought.
Madproff. You have an investment with your Canon gear, it is a pain to switch systems, I did it, from Minolta/Sony to Canon...I'm glad I did, but, wouldn't want to do it again unless Canon went under....and...no matter what they rant and rave about on DPre***, that ain't gonna happen. Canon will continue putting out great gear, so will Nikon. It's good Nikon finally put out a decent UWA. Great! you say you love your new 16-35, cool, it'll be awesome on a new 5D or 7D or mkII or whatever. \
What you read about prices of the new body is all garbage, no one knows.
Hope you find what you need, just remember, the grass is always greener. Both Nikon and Canon are just out to make $, both are huge Companies and both don't really care about anything but their shareholders, so look for good things from both.
Good luck, Happy Holidays, awe heck MERRY CHRISTMAS and enjoy the family, shoot lasting memories and thanks to everyone on this forum for you input....I love you man!

I've had 3 Canon DSLR's and about a dozen lenses with absolutely no problems at all. No "soft coppies" that everyone grips about. I did get one err99 on my Digital Rebel but that wasnt the Canon's fault. I had bought a Sigma 135-400mm and it was a known issue with the Sigma lens. Sent the lens in for a chip update and all is well. I'm not a brand basher and I think people should shoot with whatever they are comfortable with. The new Nikon bodies look like they have some awesome features. Does that mean I'm gona switch? No. I'm happy with Canon and I feel they have better glass but that's only my opinion. Canon isnt the first company to rush new product to market to beat the compitition and then have to remediate it and they wont be the last. It's just how the game is played.

Canon and Nikon will fight it out. Right now, I think Nikon will take the lead due to Canon's mishandling of the Mark III. Not the error or AF, but the lack of customer support and closed mouths. If not for R Galbraith, we would still be shooting OOF and being blamed by Chuck Westfall for our poor cfn settings. They need to do better soon or lose their pro edge.

Sure, the new Nikons are nice, but I just don't care. I'm quite happy with my 30D and the rest of my Canon stuff. For me, Canon has great lenses and bodies, and the fact that company X sells stuff that may or may not be better is immaterial to me. I'm overjoyed with the body and glass I've got and the fact that there's a Nixon at the top of the tree changes nothing.

canon knew beforehand that the camera had problems

Any proof of that, Ed?

Yes, in April the model they sent to Rob G. had focus problems and they admitted that and indicated the production models would be corrected. They just did not mention that it would take them almost 1 year to correct the problems while still selling a knowling defective camera. This is one case where competition has hurt the consumer. I believe Canon knew all along they had a problem and they also knew Nikon was coming out with their new D300 and D3 models so it forced Canon to release the MKIII before they really wanted to.
