The 5D and D3 will merge to become a 35DD. I hear it's going to be a big bust though.

It's up to you to keep us abreast of the situation....

I love rumors!

Rumors lives their own, wild life.

No rules, no limits.

Everybody wants an excellent new 5D, loaded with sweet new features, lightning fast AF, much better IQ, even better ISO performance, and...... a new, low price!

Don't hurt if it's better than the competitors eighter.

I want one too, and I catch myself thinking and dreaming.

The current 5D is still a great camera.....

In all honesty here are my guesses.

1. It will be released this Feb:
Canon releases their products about Feb and August to be shipped later in the month or early next month or so, going by the last three years or so. Rebel is due for it's 18 month cycle replacement and Canon tends to announce two bodies. So I suspect both the 5D and the Rebel to be upgraded so all the bodies are in digic III.

2. It's gonna look like the 40D:
Just as the 5D and 30D shared similar looks and ergonomics and feature set. The 5DMII will share similar looks, feature set, and ergonomics with the 40D. So this means some weather seals, ISO in the LCD/Viewfinder, 3inch LCD, anti dust sensor, cross type AF sensors over the 9 points like the 40D, Highlight tone priority, 14bit, and so on and so on.

3. 15MP full frame sensor:
When the 5D was released, it shared the same pixel pitch as the 1DMII. Since the FF sensor had 50% larger surface area, it had 12 vs 8MP of the 1DMII. I suspect that this will continue and 5DM2 and 1DM3 will have the same pixel pitch with the same ISO range as the 1DMIII, meaning 50-6400 when expanded. I suspect that with the faster digic III, it may do 4-5fps with similar 17-20 RAW shot buffer. Of course they couldn't release a 15mp semi pro body until the 16MP top of the line 1DsMII was replaced by a 22MP version. Now there is enough room between the MP count of the two Full frame bodies for the 5D to get move up to 15MP.

4. Price: $2999:
As with all of Canon's consumer grade bodies, I suspect the new body will cost less than the previous. The 5D was introduced at $3299, so my guess is maybe $2999 with a quick dip in the price to a street price of about $2500.

<SNIP>

Very well thought out points. I'm hoping you're right on all of them. Although the release date (if it comes out for PMA) will be earlier since PMA is earlier this year.

Corny or not, it's the only thing that has made me laugh all day.

Still, I'd love to get my hands on one of those..:D

Yeah, and it uses a dual lens setup. One in front to shoot crisp Canon pics of beautiful women, and one Nikon macro pointing at the photographers nose, to take pretty sharp pics of looong nose hair.
A completely new understanding of Live Wiev.
