To date:
Tamron 18-200 zoom
Sigma 24-60 f2.8 zoom

As soon as my 35 f1.4 arrives I will be selling my Sigma 30mm f1.4 and at some stage in the next few months I will upgrade my 70-200 f2.8L to the IS version.

The only two lenses I really miss are my Pentax P67 45mm (medium format) and my Schneider 90mm Super Angulon (large format). Both were very sharp & contrasty lenses with great colors and that certain "je ne sais quoi" that made them special.

I've bought and sold quite a few 35mm lenses but none that I really miss .. many "L" lenses and some nice Nikon ones before I came over from the dark side .. even with the "L" disignation most suffer from one ailment or another and when the're gone I really don't miss 'em .. and if I do I'll just buy another.

I sold my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 to help fund my Canon 17-40mm f/4 L. The Tamron was just too noisy for me...

Sold:

16-35/2.8L
50/2.5 macro to get 5D

Need:

35/1.4L
perhaps I'll sell 70-200/2.8L to finance it, since I don't use the zoom as much as I'd like.

Never sold off any lens. The 28-105 and 35-105 serve as backup (and would be worth anything significant anyway). All my other lenses get (occasional or regular) use.
I did trade in my 10D to get my 1D2.

I might sell my 100/2.0 to get a 85/1.8 (100mm is a bit long on a 1D series).
If I ever get a 16-35L, the 20-35 L goes.
If I ever get a 70-200 f/2.8 IS, the 80-200L goes (not too likely in the near future).

OK, I get it - a thread for new to photography people. You have to be kidding. I got my first SLR in 1969. Presently have 22 lenses, soon to be 23. I'd just waste the bandwidth even trying to recall everything.

Since this is the EF/EFS Lens forum, people should only list EF/EFS and 3rd party equivalent lenses, correct? I am not sure why I see Minolta, Noink, and Canon FD, etc lenses here? Oh well....

I like this thread because folks could always see who had a lens they are thinking about, and could PM that person to ask their thoughts. Interesting thread, although it is actually kinda tough to see the lenses that I have gone through in the last 2-3 years. Yeech... there were some bad ones in there.

I've gone through a couple iterations of my lenses. When I moved to digital, I bought an XT and got a couple of initial lenses. A Sigma 70-200 with a bunch of letters and such - including the misleading Macro tag - was my basic lens. I soon added a Tamron 28-75/2.8 for the short end. Then a Tokina 19-35 for wide angle. I really didn't do much research and wasn't much focused on photography.

I was disappointed in the quality of the shots I got from the Sigma and it really, really wasn't a good lens for low-light shots. I was asked to take shots of the highschool football team and didn't have anything that could handle it, so I bought a Tokina 70-200/2.8 for the task. So the first sacrifice was the Sigma.

My interest in photography was growing and so I got my first prime and first Canon lens - the 85/1.8. Wow. I mean, WOW! What a difference. That lens changed everything for me. I found a great deal on a 17-40/4 and so the next to go was the 'fantastic plastic' Tokina 19-35. Good lens, but no 17-40!

The football season ended and the Tokina 70-200 was going to go too. Horrible CA and slow AF doomed it. I bought a Canon 70-200/4 to replace it, then quickly replaced that with the IS version. That, in turn, was replaced by the 2.8IS version.

Sold the XT for the Canon 30D, as well.

The 85/1.8 also left when I got the 24-105/4IS. I kept reading about the 24-70/2.8 and sold my beloved 24-105, got the brick for the bokeh of the 2.8 aperture, was unhappy with the weight, lack of IS plus the shorter focal range, and got the 24-105 back again. Sold the brick.

At some point, I decided the lack of focal length demanded a 100-400. Got it, used it a bit, sold it, was very sad and got it back again.

On the macro side, I bought a Sigma 150/2.8, sold it and bought the Canon 180/3.5L. Both are excellent lenses.

I feel in my sales and buys, I've finally made it to a well-researched point. I'd like to have a couple wide-aperture primes, but really, I don't have a use. Or rather, while a use exists, I probably won't have the time or opportunity to use them. I've covered from 17mm to 400mm, plus a 1.4xTC. On top of that, I have a 180mm macro. Not bad.

Still, I think that my current 70-200 is redundant while I have my 100-400. I think the 7-2 is going to leave for a 85/1.2. Who knows, it might be the next on the sold list.
