Fly ?
Found this all grey/silver fly wandering around yesterday about 12 to 15mm body length and did not want to fly or stay still either. Assume it's recently hatched but hasn't properly dried it's wings off or coloured up properly yet.

I thought it might be a Sarcophagid fly but have a possible ID as a Tachinid Exoristinae - Goniini - Gonia sp. from Jorge on Flickr/diptera info.
Taken at 1:1 I think, focus stack from 2 shots

Thanks Joan and Dave for looking and commenting :)
Agree it's a slight shame it's not likely to stay this colour.

Fantastic. Detail to look at everywhere.
A lot of engineering goes into those wings.

That is an unusual fly. Wonder why the two vertical streaks in its eye, great details? :)

Thanks for looking and commenting Dave, ken and Bill :)
It was a bit hard to miss this fly with that colour- it was walking around on a black water barrel lid.
Ken - just checked the original and those lines are not there so must be something to do with size reduction.

lighting directly above has created a harsh shadow area but certainly an interesting fly and very sharp capture.

Thanks for the comments Benjamin and Toby- much appreciated.

Toby- you are correct on the lighting - think I ended up taking this with the fly pointing vertically down on the side of a flowerpot which was a bit of an arkward angle :)

Not very often that "The Lord Of The Flies" is not sure of an I.D. Mark the calendar folks. A truly rare event! Excellent image, the colors are outstanding.
