That's a good point. Should ever sell it, I guess I can't do it here. :)

I think they call those "fag bags".

Only in your cell block. ;)

Actually I just bought the smallest one I could get a camera and spare prime lens into for stealth entry into public events. I'm not going to set out to break any written rules with it, but when the tickets, websites, and venue signage all say "no video" and nothing whatsoever about cameras... Then a security guard gives you a "no entry with that". I don't have a seconds worth of patience for that nonsense. I'm going to be taking in a camera by hook or by crook from now on when all the written info doesn't reject it. Both a Pro rodeo last year and a monster truck show this year rejected my gear in spite of nothing in writing (the security guards did, not the ushers - even though I asked the ushers).

Fortunately for me I've hung on to my Canon 200 2.8 prime. It's small and doesn't get a lot of attention without a lens hood. My white lenses always get rejected when some bright guard thinks he's saving the day! So... viva the "fanny pack". Helps me blend in with the natives in the Seattle/Tacoma area.

I've had a similar thing happen to me before. I was at a job, and had set my camera (350D w/ BG-e3, 24-70L and St-E2) down on a bench (about 1.2m high) to write something down. Stood up and turned to walk out the door to go to the toilet and knocked the camera off the bench where it landed 24-70L down, denting the front filter thread a little bit. Put it on my camera and it worked fine, no problems. Did a focus chart test when I got home that night and it was not a problem. Still nice and sharp, it's great. Only bummer is I had to go and buy a crappy UV filter and knock the glass out of it leaving the ring on the front of the lens so i can still mount my CPL etc. The one day I didn't have the hood on, I dented the filter thread!

Long live the brick - I'm surprised it didn't crack the floor!

I wonder what a thread chaser (tool like a "tap"for making threads, but used for recreating/debugging threads that were there already) would cost for that... Probably don't wanna know.

77mm diameter? I wouldn't want to know. I just got the needle-nose pliers and some protective rubber tubing out and bent it back to shape, then put the UV filter ring in and forgot about it!

Wow. I'd be measurebating quite a lot just to be sure if it happened to me!

Ouch. Not something I will be testing with my L glass. Glad it is fine.

TBH, I'm not a massive measurebater. I've done focus and sharpness tests through all apertures and have not noticed any issues. There is no vignetting caused by using a CPL filter stacked on the UV filter ring, and no damage to the front element. Further (and the most important part as far as I'm concerned), the pictures I am taking with the lens are as good or better than those I was taking with the lens when I first got it. Obviously I am not saying my lens is now magic and makes all my photos awesome, but where there is not a stuff up on my part, the lens is not causing any problems with my images.

canons are strong, they do afterall have many explosions inside them on a daily basis =P

i dropped my 430ex onto the ground, it was on an oc-e3 cord, i was squated down reviewing my last photo, had it resting on my left leg.. and it slipped and hit the ground, about a 1 litre bottle drop height, no damage, no marks. scared me

430EX is a tank IMO, mine fell off my hot shoe as I was running with the camera, fell and bounced and slid several metres :o
It looks like a beat up POS now, but still works perfectly!

This is the first Canon product that has stood up to the drop test though. The 50mm f/1.8 II WILL break no matter how protected it is when you drop it (but it is self fixable in most cases if you have time, luck and superglue). My first Canon A640 broke when it fell out of my pants pocket whilst I was standing...absolutely disgraceful durability.

Had a 430ex fall 2 times from about 4 ft, 1 time off a tripod using as slave, forgot to tighten it to stand, second time it just slipped out of hand while putting it in its case. Got some marks and scrapes but works great still.

Put on my photo backpack on my way out the door, zipper was unzipped, 100-400 IS falls on the garage floor..HARD..

Put it on the camera, no problems at all...

Now I get it...

Same thing happend to me with 20D + 17-40 f4.0 I have protective filter on it, filter brake but for camera and lens nothing. I take shots through break filter and they was normal like there wasn't filter at all :)

I've almost done that. Now, when i get something out of the camera bag I instantly zip it back up. I never walk away from in unzipped anymore.
