Wonderfully focussed & full frame shots. Cycling is a great spectator sport and a challenge for photographers due to the speed of the action. The only way to slow these men & their machines is to wait for them at the top of a significant hill! I find it amazing that riders are racing without gloves.

Great set of pictures.
Good focus and movement stopped, good to see close up shots.

Thanks!
Yes, cycling is very difficult to shoot.
Spent the first part of the day on a hill (so they would be going slower), then ran over near the finish to see the top 10 or so riders come through at full throttle. Always a challenge!

Huh?

Just kidding. I live here and whenever I see other POTNers mention being in the area I always ask why they didn't get in touch! I don't know any others in the valley ... gotta go to Lompoc or Santa Barbara before any show up! But I did host a Central California POTN gathering last summer and then there were quite a few.

BTW, Lisa Tonello (who my wife says was the only woman riding as an amateur with the event) is a friend and photography client of mine. Unfortunately I had to work my day job, sigh, and missed the whole thing. The closest I've come is being overtaken (OK, totally blown off the road) by Team Verizon last year while I was out for a little exercise on Santa Rosa Road ... at least their follow vehicle was nice enough to offer me water!

Ah. Now I get it. Yes, how foolish of me not to let you know I'd be in Solvang. Next year then perhaps?

Glad to see a shot of Chris Horner! I've met him a couple times at a local cross race here. He's so friendly and down to earth. And an awesome racer!

My girlfriend (and therefore I as well) is a huge Chris Horner fan too.
