This is my wife....she is about a month from a competition. This is my official first shoot and first post of any images. There wasn't much available light except for some outside light and some bounced flash.

you've got to pull her away from the BG. try with her about 4' off, and bounce the flash if that's your only modifier (i.e. no umbrella). I think I'd like #1 better if she looked over her left shoulder with that angle, instead of away. Are you trying to display the muscle, rather than the face? I can understand why, but the photo lacks some connection to the photog or the audience as you've shot it. Also, they seem a bit OOF; maybe USM a tad, or even a second pass if you did that already.

I admit that the first could use some pop.but I really do like the pose..her toned body is the focal point.its not about a models glance....?

I did this in a kitchen and I was really cramped for space...actually my body was in a closet....I did bounce the flash at a silver umbrella @ camera right....And this photo shoot was mainly to display the muscle....it would have been better if she was looking the other way though...I could always blur the background

thanks for the comments

Can you shoot in the garage? You might find more space and then you're not backed into a corner  She looks like she's confident enough to play more. Try some different poses now.

I can imagine. Mine is heated, so it can become my studio when I get kicked out of the living room. I guess find the largest room you can; I need about 12 feet deep by 10 wide.

1st shot is good, but agree that you need to pull her away from the BG more.

Maybe drop a PM to the mods of the G&N section, they'll let you post there, I think these would fit better there then here.

That first shot is amazing! She is a dedicated person to the point of annoying? lol... I was in the fitness field and knew many competitors. Breed of their own. I myself never had the obedience for the strict dieting. Look forward to seeing more...maybe doing some mandatories before competition?

Wish you both all the luck...
