Hi all,

Got a lens from us1photo but it came in with no warranty card nor receipt. The lens is mint enough I don't think it was used, but what would that mean in terms of warranty and resell? I gotta have one or another for warranty work, right?

Also in general, how does the warranty work say, if I get a 2nd hand lens from here?

THANKS!

Did you pay with a credit card or check? Anything with a paper trail? Did you at least get an order number when you submitted the order?

No paperwork, could be a lot of reasons, but call them and get it.

If they cannot provide it, return the lens, buy it from someone who can.

Yes there are emails and stuff that shows the order date + item name and stuff, but then there's nothing other than the lens + box itself that describes the serial number, for instance. Unforutnately it was paid via PayPal (yes they do take PayPal) so I have no creditcard company to talk to.

Would that be a grey market item? There's nothing on the website that says one way or another.

Well, it does sound like a gray market or a lens taken out of a camera kit since there is no warranty card. From my experience taking gear to Canon for repairs, they just wants to see a receipt to check the date of sale. They've never asked me for a warranty card or if it was filled in.

A friend of mine bought a 40D body from them and they sent a 40D/28-135mm kit without the lens (I'm sure they sold the lens separately for a higher profit).

They don't seem like a reputable seller to me. I guess you can either ask for a receipt or print out your invoice or return the item.

Yes...the last time I bought the lens it came in w/o the retail box but with warranty card so pretty obvious it was ripped from a kit, and they don't say it anywhere on their website.

And this time I had to wait 10 days for them to ship...ARRH.

I've tried to pricematch at B&H and they wouldn't pricematch US1photo. Probably because they are not an authorized canon dealer. So they sell gray market stuff.

Did you get an online receipt? When you buy from online retailers, often all you get in the box is a packing slip. No warraty card=gray market. With no card and a receipt from USPhoto, I bet you will be denied warranty coverage.

I can probably print it from the order history or the email order confirmation...but if it's grey market I can't take that to Canon for warranty work though...so it kinda makes no difference...

Did some research for this Company and I've read alot of reviews of people who were shipped gray market items without warranty even though it was never stated on the website.

darn.. that's lame. I was going to buy a 40D from them. I thought they are legit sellers.
Good thing I didn't buy it yet. I guess I won't buy from them at all!

I'd say that's VERY FORTUNATE. You have proof of purchase now. Print out the paypal payment details and there you go; paypal transaction number, date, amount, paid to & hopefully an item description, even if its just "canon lens".

Gray market = not factory Authorized - they can sell for whatever .
factory Authorized has to sell no lower than - with box , card and UPS code plus other stuff . Can sell lower if demo , open box , return --can't be with in x days [generally months] of new release . factory promises not to sell for less than factory Authorized can sell for .
An example is the chevy dealer is factory Authorized -- Wall-mart isn't factory Authorized but will change your oil .
