This event in Yosemite only occurs in years when certain elements come together.

Very nice image! I really like the way the light is playing off the water while the rocks are dark.

Certain time of the year? Sunrise/sunset?

The elements needed for this effect are ample snowfall, warm clear days for melting, and the position of the Sun in late Feb-early Mar.

The lighting is from the setting Sun. I was at an angle farther East than normal for this shot. Resulting in the cliff obstructing total view of the falls.
