I hired a 100-400 from Stewart a couple of weeks ago and it came with the soft case, lens hood and tripod ring.

Very nice and helpful chap as well!

Hi ninjaboy. All the lenses we have at www.LensesForHire.co.uk (external link) come with a hood, some sort of case or pouch, and a copy of the instruction manual. If Canon supply them with other bits and pieces (strap, tripod collar, coffee-making attachment, etc.) then you'll get them too. Basically, whatever you'd get if you bought the lens - except the big bill.

You might also be interested to know that we have a Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 coming soon... probably the top choice for UK motorsport professionals, I understand...

So is hiring a lens like hiring a mercenary? Do people rent things in the UK or is everything referred to as being for hire?

Wouldn't it be great if it meant it came with someone to carry it too?

I don't think hiring a lens is particularly like hiring a mercenary ... it's a lot easier, for starters, and cheaper, and slightly more legal. :D

But there is an interesting question of language here. In the UK I think you would generally rent a house or flat (apartment), but you would hire a car or a power tool, so to my mind you would hire a lens.
