I am heading to Beijing next month. First time to Beijing, and probably the last time, that's why I don't want to miss any good shots.

Let's get straight to the point, I have the 40D, 24-70 f/2.8L and the 580EX II. I am just wondering if the 24mm will be too long for scenery? Do I need an ultra-wide angle? If so, (as you can see, I wanted one already:oops:), which lens: Canon 10-22 or Sigma 10-20?

edit: I am also eying on the Tokina 12-24, too. Just wonder if 12mm is wide enough for scenery?

Thanks.

I went to Beijing last fall with a 20D and Tamron 17-50 and never wanted anything else. It depends on the kind of stuff you shoot but personally, I would need something wider than the 24-70. I went to Singapore last year with a 28mm prime and there were a lot of times it just wasn't wide enough.

I have owned the Tokina 12-24 and thought it was a great lens but I hate having to carry two lenses for stuff like this - which is why the Tamron works for me. If you are planning to carry the 24-70 and an ultra-wide I would vote for the Canon as well. It is smaller and lighter than the Tokina. I'd leave the flash at home.

I am uploading some China pictures and will post a link later...

Here's a link to some of my China photos. The first 4 and last 18 are Shanghai - the rest are Beijing (+ Great Wall). It was a great trip (mostly business) and I would love to go back with more time!! Enjoy...

I really think the 17 was wide enough for me - but I realized when I had the 12-24 that I am just not an ultra-wide shooter. I really prefer a more "normal" view and the 17 on the Tamron was enough for the landscape and building shots. Any wider and I think you have to really work hard at keep in normal perspective, etc. unless you are going for the ultra-wide effect. Hope that makes sense...
