So, if I want to trigger a second flash, would you recommend a set like this or just a decent optical trigger ? I intend to use them in daylight, usually with line of sight, but it would be nice to not need to worry about that.

Will modding (adding an antenna) increase the sync speed?

What? you want to add an antenna to your shutter??

Sync speed is determined by max shutter speed primarily, secondary by t.5 (usually) time on your flash, as that time is usually faster than the max shutter sync speed (In the case of AB800 strobes, 10x faster). Adding an antenna to a transceiver will only increase the effective range, not sync speeds (in fact it may create too much lag and cause the speed to drop, if you plan on taking the strobes further away)

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

I have read in other forums/blogs that when after modding their cactus triggers like the one just above your post, people, but not all, report that their sync speed also increased in addition to the increase in range. Thats why I asked it here.

Anyway I have just modded my Cactus V2s and had an increase in range but no improvement with sync speed. i can only sync upto 1/160sec:o.

Yes you're right. I never used the batteries that it came with because I've read they are culprits to some problems... they they went straight to the trash can!

Here is my blog about the trigger mod:

Hahaha... so you work at Maplins then? B&Q also sell those batteries but different packing cheaper!

Also they come with a near invisible cling film protector.

D'oh! Should have come to this thread before wasting some 3 hours only to find I didn't pick up on the fact that the batteries were in plastic.

Thanks

I haven't seen this link posted so apologies if I've missed it. A guy has shot a series of videos showing performance tests of the V2s triggers and also the antenna mods. I've only watched episodes 1 and 2 out of 4, but they look like useful videos.

I think the newest models of some of the latest inexpensive radio slaves have removed the built in female PC port.

Enjoy! Lon

That would be the one that uses the two AAA batteries?

Is there space to add a 2mm phone jack or are the batteries too long?
