Well there's two ways to go. The first being to create your website with a HTML Editor. I use Dreamweaver, which I can only recommend. It requires some know how if you want to program something decent.

Then there's the Blog ..... until a few month ago I used to not like bloggin software. I found it not flexible enough. But since I worked on a Blog for a customer I changed most of my private websites to Blogs. It's amazingly easy to maintain and given the right template you can do anything you'd like. I use Wordpress for most of my work.

I also use Dreamweaver. It's a real beast of a program.

here's a good place to start: http://themes.wordpress.net/ (external link)
But I don't think that you will find one that will suite your taste as it is. Some work will be needed to adapt them to your needs. Do you know php?

I couldn't find one I liked either. While some people don't care for it, it works for me.

Have you looked at Gallery2 and wordpress? I just started playing around with them and so far it seems very useable. Wordpress handles the blog and gallery2 the images, seems seamless so far along.

Learn to code the site yourself, pay someone to do it for you, or us SmugMug or some such thing.
