Bull....bought 2d mark ii n a while ago, unsealed the box, on da first time turning it on there was already correct time and date.

Wow I never new any Manufacturer to set the correct date and time off the production line. And we would have to assume that they have a set Time zone for each country they sell the cameras to - for instance for Canon USA do they default the time zone to EST?

Just FYI - my new 5d arrived yesterday - the date was off by a day and the time was off by 2 hours. Bought mine from Amazon (see signature). So i think they're setting the date/time in the factory.

Looks like 2 frames were shot on it.

You cannot know why.

They may have used it to test a component from another set of gear to see if it was the body at fault.

For that kind of money, if I had any instinct like you do, I'd return it ASAP and buy from someone else.

Well, I just want to say....I purchased a rebel xt a few years ago and it arrived with the button battery installed, dust on the sensor, and a thumb print on the screen. I contacted canon and they said the battery should have been in a plastic bag not installed in the camera. The place that sold it to me claimed they get cameras from other dealers sometimes, but the camera was new....well, I kept it but I wasn't happy and never bought anything from them again. I only use B&H now!

Yep. Happens all the time.

I got a 24-70 with a fingerprint on the front element.

From a store.

Lens is perfect, I kept it.

Exactly! It drives me bonkers when I see someone say "buy both and return the one you don't like". Its to the point I don't want to buy things over the internet.

Thanks for your input so far. I guess I can feel good that the camera is "new" as the date/time seems to be set in the factory now. I could care less about the 2 actuations that must have been taken along the way.

I think the two actuations is from testing at the end of the assembly line. I would worry more if there were no actuations showing. :)

Got a new xti from B&H last month. Looked and worked perf but for the time already being set (but not hawaii time) No problems at all... Don't think you need to be overly concerned.

Good point.

Next time, I'm going to dust the camera for fingerprints before I buy one.;)

I haven't had a brand new product in the last few years (short of a game console) that hasn't had it's time set for me as I got it. Motherboards, cell phones, etc.

There should be other signs of usage though.

Troubleshooting 101 (see also: LightRules,perryge):
1) RTFM.
2) Repeat Step 1.
