The lens was only recently released here in the states, and it seems supply isn't keeping up with demand. I don't know of any place that has it in stock.

Granted, this is from the same guy that said they had it in stock when, in reality, he was mistaken BUT... I was at Adorama yesterday and my sales guy told me that A) they had undergone training on the lens that morning and 2) they we expecting it very soon - possibly before the end of next week (their website says late June).

Have you considered Tokina's 12-24 f/4? This was my widest zoom on my cruise to the Mexican Riviera... here are a couple of samples:

I would love to upgrade to the Tok 11-16 f/2.8, but it's availability is very limited at this time... at last check, B&H is still taking orders but shipping as they become available. I love the 12-24... it's a useful range, but I admit... for my trip, the 16-50 f/2.8 was on my 10D 85% of the time.

I ended up doing the same-- got the Tokina 12-24 instead. It also has great reviews and I am happy so far with the results. The real test will be this weekend when I go to Niagara Falls.

I have considered the 12-24...

in reality I was all set to get the Sigma 10-20mm when tokina made the announcement about this lens...and then I got excited!

the reason I really want this lens is that for italy I already have some shots in mind...

1. inside of Pantheon looking up...
2. inside of various dark churches...
3. couple panoramics of various italian cities
4. other things for which f/2.8 would be GREAT!

anyway, thanks all for the responses...

I'll check Adorama if the other opportunities don't work out...

Other than eBay sellers from US or international places at a premium, I'm not aware of any place that has them in stock.

I'm looking as well.

I was at Adorama yet again (got a 17-40 f/4L!) and my sales guy said that they had been trickling in, and that they were slowly filling preorders. He expected it to be a couple of weeks before an un-spoken for piece would be available.

Great, just after I cancelled my pre-order with them.
According to Glen at Tokina, he said some got shipped yesterday, so this trickling in story sounds about right. Probably in low volumes again like the first batch.

Lets hope the second one is a charm for me.
I feel sorry for the poor guy/gal that got my backfocusing one from Scamy's.
