Thank you to everyone who submitted a photo for this challenge, they were all so wonderful and it was very hard for me to decide! After scrolling up and down, over and over since yesterday I have chosen the following photos:

First Place: Maureen Souza - "Chow Time". I love the close of up that cow's face! It makes me feel like I am at a 4-H Fair...which is really the only time I am that close to a cow. She looks like a friendly and inquisitive girl.

Second Place: Bluecoyote - "Canada Geese on a Rainy Day". I think that the colors in your photo are beautiful and tranquil. It looks like a peaceful early morning on the farm.

Third Place: Kevan_G9 - "Ee-i-ee-i-oo". This is a beautiful photo of an early-summer day on the farm. I like the green hills, the fields, the buildings and it even has a small pond! A farm is a wonderful place.

Challenge #175--on the farm

A farm is such a wonderful place, especially if you have had the good fortune to live on one as a child, or even to visit one for the summer. Such memories! So put on your "childhood glasses" and show what a farm might mean to you. :D This can include people, animals, objects or places on a farm. Can't wait to see the pics.

Congrats to the other winners! Maureen, you beat me to the cow. I have a photo I'll share with you and the others when I get back home.

I've come to realize I have the perfect accessory for the G9. No filter or lens, just a bicycle.

I do a benefit ride every year that goes from NY up into VT, passing through parts of CT and MA. On the day this photo of mine was taken the temperature spiked to a nice and comfortable very humid mid 90'Fs; it seemed everyone and everything went for cover, but for some dumb cyclists who were caught out there, doing nearly one hundred miles that day. I won't kid you...it boarded a death march. Hot... with emphasis on the word HOT! Let me tell you the pleasures of a cold beer afterwards.

Anyway, I had reached the turn around point in VT, a rollercoaster ride of a road that everyone of us has grown to enjoy from past years. There's a lot of climbing to get to this road, but once you're there, you can coast most of the way for a good mile or two. For all the effort, this is dessert. So I'm on the way down, catching bugs in my teeth, when I see this scene. I apply the brakes hard.

I simply love the symmetry of the buildings to the hillside in this photo. Taken as a whole the buildings echo the outline of the hill. The farm house alone does it too. There wasn't much action going on that day, it was simply too hot. But the picture frame was full with puffy clouds, brilliant green trees, a meadow of flowers and the pond. And you can't quite see it, but a flag out front of the house was trying to wave in the heat. This is the ideal farm photo, to me. All that need happen next was Lassie come out and bark at me as I continued my way past.

Marie, I totally enjoyed your photo. The gander giving you the what-for, the farm equipment, and nicely tucked in the back, a beautiful bicycle. You did that for me...didn't yuh?

lol
Lassie's barking spirit chases the man on the bike flying down yonder hill and dale

:)

sounds wonderful and the place looks good from your photo
the bike shot is lovely. love the long fine green grass there too
the best of being on a bicycle is you get to see a lot more detail around the countryside
(and get to sniff the fresh fragrant air)

Marie, I totally enjoyed your photo. The gander giving you the what-for, the farm equipment, and nicely tucked in the back, a beautiful bicycle. You did that for me...didn't yuh?

I thought the bike was left there by you when you were flying past lol
:p
you did come to mind when I decided to leave in that shot . I have lots of farm animals but I decided the gander with his sudden flinging open of his wings deserved his place in the challenge
the muscovy russian ducks ignored him and flapped their webbed feet onwards........
even the hens ignored him
but he needed this wild moment to express how powerful he was amongst the feathered fiends
:)
many thanks
and Congratulations
