I was wondering what you all thought would be the best set up for a G9 to shoot macro? I saw have one that is on a budget and then one for the all out best.

I think it's great just the way it is, so on a budget don't add or do anything!

I realise this doesn't help you in the slightest or answer your question but I snapped this shot the other day and was just so impressed with the detail I thought i'd share it :)

The answer depends on what you mean by "macro". For some shots, nothing at all is needed. I made some comparisons, including a reversed lens, and posted the shots here, http://lightdescription.blogspot.com/2008/03/g9-macro.html (external link).

I've read some threads on other forums by folks that use the Raynox DCR-250 who really like it. The max distance you can get away from your subject is a little over 4 inches. Here's a link on Amazon for it, plus you can check out the customer photos posted there. It's also available through Lensmate. You also need the adapter tube for these.

If you got some money to burn, you might consider the Raynox DCR-5230Pro 3-in-1 high def lens;

This link lists the lenses, and other options for the G9 (and G7). It also explains what the sizes are (52mm, 58mm, etc), so you would be able to know which step rings to order. The G9 adapter is 58mm, but not all lenses are that same size.

right the canon adapter is 58mm, and any 58mm lens will fit?

also which a wide angle similar to macro lens? about macro filters (or something like that)?

I assume that it is true that any 58mm lens will fit, but as to whether it will work with the G9 is another issue. The Lensmate site offers information on image quality, corner softness in images, and whether you need to add something like a step ring to avoid a lens crash with certain lenses (like tele and wide conversion lenses). Click here to see the main page to Lensmate, then position your pointer over the G9/G7 link on the top left side of the page. You will see a pop up menu so you can choose from among tele, wide angle, or macro lenses to get more info. You must use an adapter tube that is the proper length to prevent a lens crash, however, some lenses still might have a rear protrusion to still cause it.

Also, here's an Amazon link for the Canon 250D macro lens (filter). Most of the folks that reviewed on this link think it is a good investment. One person said they could get a working distance of 7 to 10 inches. You won't be able to use your built in flash very effectively, since the adapter tube will partially block the light. The same is true for the tele or wide lenses. An external flash would be required.
