I have exchanged private messages with a couple of other memebers about Alaskan cruises. It seems that there are a number of us heading north this summer. Would anyone be interested in providing the details of your dates and cruise ship so it might be possilbe to meet some other POTN members who happen to be on the same cruise?

I'll start; my Wife and I depart Vancouver on July 14 on the Island Princess.

Gear: A bunch of Canon stuff and a bunch of old Olympus 35 mm stuff (OM-1, OM-2, etc).

Ahh the Island Princess. At least she is a slightly good looking and almost unique ship, not like her larger sisters (Golden, Sapphire, Emerald Princess etc...).

Always wanted to cruise Alaska, just for something completely different to the south pacific waters down here. You will have a blast (I say that whenever there is a thread on an Alaskan cruise on here).

Just one piece of advice, travel insurance, dont leave home without it ;)

Ha ha ha. Yes I'll be with them. We can't wait. We decided a long time ago that when our kids were between their junior and senior years of high school we'd let them pick the family vacation hoping they'd actually want to go with us. This is our third and last child to reach this milestone and he's talked about Alaska for 6 years. We decided to splurge and go since we kind of wanted to go to Alaska as well. Our other two kids still wanted to tag along so we're all going.

We have been on two Alaska cruises. One in August 2006 on the Diamond Princess and Celebrity Mercury in May 2008. Both were great! Celebrity was an up and back from Vancouver. Princess we flew to Anchorage and left from Whittier then down to Vancouver, much preferred as you get to see more places!
