Took my new G9 to the firing range, during a practise session we had. Took a few shots of a friend of mine, firing his new Heckler Koch P30 pistol.
I bought this camera, so I wouldn´t have to bring my 30D everywhere, and this was one of those occasions where I couldnt bring my slr. But I kept my G9 in my pocket, and when the instructor looked away, I managed to get this shot. If you look closely, you can actually see one of the shells being ejected from the pistol.
I´ve only taken a few hundred shots with it, but I like it alot already. I use it in manual mode almost all of the time.
Feel free to comment.

What?! But where's the flying bullet?

Isn't that little black box awesome? What are those things hanging from under the barrel of each gun? Laser scopes?

Hi Kevan, yes, the camera is really something! Actually, those are tactical lights. We dont use them during daytime, but the Safariland holster is adjusted for the gun with the lights attached. The gun/light combo works really great.

Thats a great shot and very nice use of fill flash. Was this with the built in flash? very impressive!

Thanks Savone! Yes, this was with the built in flash. I exposed for the skies/background, giving me a reading of f/8 at 1/160 sec at ISO 80. This left my buddy in the dark, so I turned on the flash, and it gave a nice fill to him.
I was impressed with the little flash myself, but I was standing right next to him, so the light didn´t have to travel far to overpower the sunlight.

Interesting, I have to look into the guide numbers and such for this little flash. I would how this would work say 8-10 feet ?? Do you have any others where you used the flash for fill?

Savone, so far I only got this shot, that is worth posting. I think the power of the onboard flash is weak, so you will have to be close to your subject in bright sunlight, to get some good fill. I will try this camera soon, with a off camera set up, using pocketwizards to trigger my SB26 flash. I will post some more examples then.

TommyG, thank you for your comment!

In hear ya on that one, I have already tried it (off camera flash with g9) and posted the results here:

Not bad, but the reason I bought the G9 was to not have to carry my equipment around all the time. That is why I am so interested in the built in flash and what it can do.

I think it's above and to the left of the shooter in the background.

Probably about 800 feet down range when the shutter went off! :)

Yeah, the bullet is long gone, but the shell casing is in the foreground between the 2 shooters (brass colored blurred object). Nice "shot".

Yes. I don't know much about guns. I'm more of an ice pick kind of guy. ;)

Great photo widowmaker.

The devices attached to the underside of the pistol frames are flashlights ("white light target illuminators" in tactical-speak).
