Thanks! I have an xti, and was looking at a 5d, then 20d, 30d, 40d, and someone convinced me if a 5d is what I really want, to just go for it. I couldn't be more exited. I actually made a thread because I'm so excited :)

Now to sell my xti

HAHAHA NO! Although I'm debating finding a 20d so I'm not swapping lenses all the time.

Welcome! The 5D is a great camera! Right off the bat, you'll love the viewfinder, and shots right out of the camera are sweet!

On FF, is there really a huge difference in quality between the L glass and the other cheaper manufactures equivalents?

Depends on the lens(es) in question. The FF sensor will pick up more data through the lens, than a crop sensor will, so in an essence, yes you can see some differences, due to the quality of the lens.

Welcome to the land of the 5D. It can do just about anything, at any ISO :)

how are you liking the 40d from the xt? I was almost going to go from xti to 40d but decided to send the extra little bit

Well, not a definitive answer, but here's a comparison of the 24-105L with the Tamron 18-200... a pretty good lens... on my 5d blog (external link) - now mind you, i only had a couple of lenses to play with and the Tamron was one i had for a while, but it gave me an idea.

The last image of the 3 is most telling i think.
