I found this long (approx 4 inches) but with a very tiny width worm? I have never seen one of these before and my books don't list such a worm. To top it off I found a couple of them in one day, on rhododendrons and a rose bush.

So does anyone know what this is? ???
Thanks ;)

Wonderful shot- think they are horsehair worms. They are insect parasites only - not harmful to humans.

LordV,
Thank you,
It seems to fit perfectly under the descriptions of a Horsehair worm. :)

Bill Pham & Sugarman,
Thanks, glad you liked them :)

Just reminds me of some of the wonders of macro photography, there are tons and tons of tiny creatures ;)

It turns out that when they are younger they may live in these

Good shot.

Looks like a nematode worm, normally a gut parasite. Probably waiting to be swallowed by it's next host.
