I redid the photo to reduce the red see if you like now. I tried to get rid of the hair over the eye but it just scewed up the photo I don't know photoshop that well.

I used the Shadow/Highlight to add back the color, contrast, and also the shape from what was lost.
If I were to spend more time, I'd get rid of that stray hair like what was done before, and whiten the teeth slightly, and other things, plus take my time, this really was a quickie.
All done in Photoshop CS2...

Notice the sweater's detail, teeth, highlights in the face, have all (mostly) come back some...

Before I forget....My edit steps...

Crop to set off subject off centre.
Clone out hair over eye.
Magnetic lasso teeth - reduced saturation.
Curves adjustment "auto". (I have no idea how to work curves)
Levels adjustment "red channel" moved slider till red tones faded out.
Unsharp mask on eyes 3.0 50% threshhold 0
Adjustment layer soft light at 50%

And I just figured out how to save a bigger file on the forum.
YAY!

Adjusted Shadow/Highlights
Adjusted Hue/Sat sliders.
Adjusted exposure/gamma.
Slight sharpening to finish off.
