Hi all-

im in the market for either a 500mm or 600mm canon lens, but im still looking into which is the best option for me. I have had a chance to try out a 500mm, but i dont have access to a 600 to try it out or get a feel for the size difference. I know its heavier, but im looking for some pictures of these two lenses next to each other so i can really see the size difference... i came across photos exactly like these a while back, but i cant remember which forums and site i found them on..if anyone here can point me to some, or actually has both of these lenses and wouldnt mind taking a few pics of them that would be very helpful!

Also...

I have a quick question im just looking for some input to help sway my decision...

i have a 5D body, and am trying to work out if i should just grab a 600 + 1.4x for it, OR, get a 500mm which is a little easier to work with, but pick up a second 1.6x crop body (like a 40D body) and 1.4x to use to get that extra reach when i need it..

this seems like a better option as i can switch bodys/add t.c to get more or less reach, and i dont have to spend as much on a tripod/head setup for the 600..

just looking for some input. thanks

Go to the review of the 500 f/4. Scroll down and there is a pic of the 500 next to the 600.

Get the 600. The more focal lengh (without using TC) you have, the better.

thank you!! EXACTLY what i was looking for =)

dont get me wrong, im leaning toward the 600, but im still trying to justify to wifey why the extra $2000 should go to the 600 over the 500 instead of $2000 into the vacation fund....its a never ending battle haha..

i may just pick up the 500 and get a 40D to stick on there when my 5D isnt enough.. who knows..this is the most pain in the butt lens purchase ever..

tell me about it!!

like the other night, she was showing me a pet photography competition she wanted me to enter some of my photographs to, and first prize was $2000. I was like, that would be nice to win, thats a 3rd of my new lens!! She immediately turned around and said "no, thats our air fare to france..".

apparently i had already lost that battle before it started..lol..
