Recommendations on Renting - 10-22 or 17-55?

I'm looking to rent a lens for an upcoming vacation in Arizona and I've narrowed it down to two, the Canon 10-22 and 17-55 2.8. Currently my widest glass is only the 28-135 that came with my 40D so you can see the need for something wider. Eventually I'll probably own both of these, but right now I like to try one out. Any thoughts on which would be the better option? I'll be mainly looking to shoot landscapes while I'm out there.

Seems like 10-22 would give you a better range combined with 28-135. I'm sure 23 to 27 isn't such big of a deal.

I own the 10-22 and I think you would love it. It has the ability to fit tons of people in the same frame while still capturing a lot of the background. IF you dont like it, just twist it off and put your kit lens back on and your golden. at night time you might have a little trouble with the 10-22 and its F3.5 lowest aperture tho.

Depends.

If you are going Grand Canyon or other landscape/wide open areas, 10-22.

If you aren't doing night/low light shots, you have things covered with the lens you have already.

Mmmmm, 10mm, mmmmmmm.

moew!!!!!

Seems everyone is in agreement. I was leaning that way and the feedback help convince me. I just finished reserving the 10-22 for the end of the month and I'm really looking forward to trying it out.

I'm hoping that if I need a low light lens, I'll be ok with the 50 1.8 that I have. While not the best option, it'll work well enough. For night landscape shots, I'll have my tripod with me, so that should help.

Thanks for the help.

i own both. sometimes if i need to pick one, i'll go with 17-55.... it's more versatile in what kind of shots it can get, wide to short-tele on the 40D.

however, if i know i'm gonna be doing a lot of funky, landscape, or super wide shots, i'll bring my 10-22. fun lens to use!

If you are doing a lot of cityscape/landscape, then the 10-22 and carry the 28-135 for occassional needs.

If it's more family vacation shots, the 17-55 and leave the 28-135 at home.
