I just traded up my SD600 to a G9 through Canon's Loyalty program. Very excited to get it. I still have to go out and buy a case for it. Plus I'm going to a concert tomorrow night and Mexico on Saturday. I'm going to put it to good use. Any suggestions? I have never shot RAW before but I hear good things. I have photoshop on my laptop but never really used it before. Its a bit intimidating. Thanks guys!

Cool, I just got a G9 a couple of weeks ago...a quick tip or two about shooting RAW, you can set the camera to shoot RAW+JPG so you have everything as JPGs plus RAW files for those shots where you want/need to put in the extra effort in PP later on down the line - but you have to make the correct settings in *2* different menus for this option so read the manual carefully...also plan on having plenty of memory on hand if you're going this route on a trip, you'll fit roughly 1/4 the shots on a card compared to highest quality JPGs alone.

Good info! I'll spend a night with the manual.

I recommend you to open the G9 Camera User Guide (external link) in .pdf format and save a copy of it for reference.

The use of the search feature of Adobe Reader is great for locating specific instructions within the manual.

For example, you can search for RAW and quickly go to all the pages where some text about RAW files appear.

The link provided works on Internet Explorer 7 with the Adobe Reader (formerly Acrobat Reader) plugin installed. I hope it will work on FireFox as well.

Edit: For a direct download, right click the link and choose save target as… (Internet Explorer) or save link as (FireFox).

I was looking at the PDF file last night, but never thought of saving it. Thanks for the great idea. Search feature is very helpful, thanks!
