a major headache for spiders this time of the year are the scores of inedible Rhododendron Leafhoppers that swarm about. Inevitably many will collide with webs and the poor spider then has the job of cutting them loose:

Colourful hopper. Not often that spiderweb victims are referred to as the pest and the "poor spider" :)

LOvely series- didn't realise spiders find these inedible ? - certainly looks like it's sunk it's fangs in in #2

well I saw two cut out including this one and they both went merrily on their way. Another hopper was lying on its back on a leaf but when I turned it over it seemed about ok if a bit drowsy - maybe they do get bit to stop them wriggling then are able to recover?
