Without the box the buyer wouldn't be able to perform the proper testing in order to judge the lens sharpness. :rolleyes:

Mine either. But my print lab usually includes a lollipop or two.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

NIB = New In Box

IB = In Box

IB doesn't necessarily say it is new, just that it will be "in box", hopefully that means the original factory box/packaging.

Man, I wish I had a box. Think of all the things you could do with it. Store it in the closet, store it under the bed, store it in a drawer, store it in a chest, store it in the garage, store it in the attic...

Should have a contest for the most creative use of empty camera equipment boxes.

Yes, a funny thread....

Perhaps even more so because absolutely all the serious answers you've gotten are so completely wrong.

"IB" means "Instruction Book" or "Instruction Booklet".

If you are looking at KEH, they have a guide to their abbreviations, but "IB" meaning "Instruction Book" has been a standard for a long, long time in used equipment ads. You used to see "IB" a lot in Shutterbug back when that was the primary source for used equip, in the days before the Internet.

In KEH ads, "box" means "box". I think most others use that, too. KEH only rarely uses it, with vintage stuff. But, some newer, but used stuff I've bought from them came in the original box, even though it wasn't advertised that way.

It might seem a bit strange that items bring a higher price if the original box is included, but it's true. I keep all mine. Buying and selling collectibles in particular taught me that. The older the equipment, the more value the box will add (so it's really nice that my Leica IIIG is still in the original box my dad bought it in, in 1959).

Some places even sell empty boxes from time to time. Check out www.pacificrimcamera.com (external link) in Oregon. They usually have some.

By the way, I'm selling a lens... And yes it's in the orig box w/all orig paperwork incl the IB, plus the cs, hood & caps.

It's pretty amazing how this thread has meandered down a rather funny sidetrack that's based on completely incorrect information to begin with.:D

I'm still wondering what Altoids have to do with all this... :confused:
