IMAGE: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee69/FL_Investor/MISC_MK/USPS_moversguide.jpg

Traveling to Macau, HK & BKK next week and do not feel like dragging the whole
DSLR bag with me as this is a business trip - not a vacation.

...just bought my G9 on Monday (also own XTi and some lenses)....I LOVE this thing !!
The best and most advanced P & S I have ever held.
(...and the feel of sturdy magnesium body is addicting ;))

Paid only $396 at local Best Buy (while their price is $499 !!) :-P

1) printed the advertised price of $439 from Circuit City web site
2) printed out the above coupon from USPS (their 'Mover guide")
If you need it - just print THIS coupon above.
3) checked the Best Buy web site to see which local stores had it in stock
4) drove 10 minutes to the closest one and had them do the price match
at the customer service desk
5) after they verified Circuit City's price and agreed to match - I pulled out
the coupon out of my pocket ......LOL !!
6) $395.99 + Tax.....I was a happy camper !!!

Get the G9.....there is NOTHING out there that shots this good and you can tug in your pocket.
(OK...you have to wear looser pants or cargo shorts.....but it IS 'pocketable'....;)

apparently this $396 is still good to go.....
I showed my G9 to a good friend last night and after I told him about the Best Buy deal,
he just went to get one on his way to work this morning..

Like others, I have a 40D and bought the G9 especially because we were going to Disney World. Having just got back from holiday it is a decision that I do not regret one single bit - as I just couldn't imaging lugging around the 40D with 24-105 lens, going on rides and not damaging the camera!

Yes, there are times that I wished I'd had the fps of the 40D, but IQ wise, all the shots I've taken are never likely to get printed above 8x10 and they all look fine on screen.

Someone mentioned that night photography may be an issue, so here are a couple shot at Disney Hollywood Studios - the only processing is levels in ACR to convert to JPG:

They do suffer a bit from re-sizing for the web, and can be further improved with a bit more PP, but I don't think they are too shabby.

Just a point on memory, I shot RAW for all single shots and large JPEG for action multiple shots (such as Shamu at Seaworld) - took over 800 images and used nearly 12GB of SD cards, and I wasn't trying that hard and could easily have taken a lot more shots, but we had a bit of rain (Fay) so make sure you have plenty of memory if you intend to shoot RAW.

Just read an interesting article by a pro that is pretty interesting and after I read it I started
questioning owning my DSLR. While I like good quality pictures, I do not need professional quality.
As long as I document my traveling and family events with a decent quality images, I am OK....
(and I am sure if I capture a stunner with G9, I can print it once in a blue moon)

I do travel a bit and always take a lot of pictures......but as the guy in that article said:

A Word on My Travel Philosophy:
"A foreword to quell the haters might be in order. This piece is not prescriptive of the “right” way to travel or photograph. I travel to travel, not to produce commercial-grade photography – that’s a side benefit if it happens. I have suffered one too many trips degraded by the presence of too much heavy gear hanging, both literally and figuratively, like an albatross around my neck. The compromise is that I carry light, compact cameras, which afford me a modest, core focal-length range. No tripods. No flashes. No long teles. No laptop.

Of course, I could easily have produced bigger, badder images with my Canon 1DsMK II and a coterie of “L” glass. Could have, that is, but for the fact that my shoulders would have taken one look at that kit in the morning and marched me out the door cameraless !!

The only great camera is the camera that’s there with you when the light happens."

For me personally .....this is SO TRUE !!!

I am leaving for a business trip in Asia next week (main reason for this G9
purchase - as this is a business trip and carrying my DSLR bag just would not cut it).

Who knows, after I return.....my DSLR stuff 'could' be for sale ....LOL ! ;)
