I would probably keep shooting with what I have because I don't have the cash on hand to upgrade right now anyway.

And if the 1DsMIII drops to 5 grand, I would just skip right over the 5D or its what ever may replace it, and get that.... if I could ever save up that kind of scratch that is

Canon will deliver.

Failure is not an option, especially at this critical time.

I've got a camera, well two, they works still. I'm presuming most people on here have a canon camera that works...

If canon suddenly decided to cease trading and launch themselves in the sun tomorrow I can't say I'd care...

Until they broke and I needed them repairing

I need a camera with a good AF system that also performs well at high ISOs. If the 50D is not that camera and there are no others in the sub-$3000 range, I may have to jump ship to Nikon, as I do not want to spend over 3000 for a camera body that will depreciate the minute I buy it.

My Mark III is not the vast improvement over the MKIIN including AF.

In Yellowstone, we ran 30D, MKIIN, MKIII -- That was a real eye-opener when going through the 1000's of files.

So, I may be right behind you, with a great deal of gear to sell.

IF Canon doesn't release the 5D MK2 at Photokina, and IF it doesn't outdo the D700, I will sell my lenses and invest in a Nikon system. The D700's features, and the increasing quality of their glass, make it ideal for my purposes. I need to upgrade from my current 40D/30D bodies, and if the 5DMk2 ain't it, the Dark Side is suddenly looking a lot brighter.

Worst case scenario is if they release the 5DMk2, and it falls short of the D700. All that time and development dollars (or Yen), and it comes up short, it would worry me about the thinking at Canon, and urge me to move toward a different company with different lines of thinking...

Well, when you say "not to" I think you think you are, but, sure.......

The 'trick' is that the underlying picture is not the front of a new 5D, IMO.

;):p

I will definitely stick with Canon, no matter what they do. I really love my 40D and will stick with it until maybe the 60D. I have the money saved for the new 5D but if it doesn't come out, I'll spend it on other toys.:D Lenses, guns, monitors, laptop, the end is limitless!:D

One thing I won't do is leave Canon as I'm very satisfied with the company in all ways! They have such a fantastic list of lenses that it boggles my mind at times and their technology for all things photographic is legendary.

I don't upgrade at every possible chance I get, so it's kind of a moot point for me.Then again, I'm not doing anything highly competitive, either.

I agree with Mr. Tinworth. I will stay with my trusted 5D and save for a new 1Ds series in the future.

I actually just switched to canon from Nikon this Summer. Although I bought a 40d which has now been replaced I'm very happy. Note anything would be an improvement over my D50.

I'm waiting on the new 5D. I'll buy one in a year or so regardless what the other camera companies Are doing. Everything should be just about equal soon.

Note: My switch to Canon was largely based on Renting gear from School. The Academy of Art only rents Canon and Hasselblad gear.

Why don't you think so [that the moon picture on Canon's website is a 5DII]?

If that is from the front of the camera, does it look right to you?

I've noticed that many people are really freaked about this new camera; very sensitive.

It is just a camera.

Really.

It doesn't actually matter in life.

I'll be sticking with Canon and probably my 5D. I can't really think of any improvements to this camera that I will actually benefit from. Increased frame rates, resolution etc are all nice, but won't make much difference to me based on the way I use this camera. The only improvement that I would like to see is "self sensor cleaning". A better seal in the viewfinder would also be nice as the dust behind the focusing screen gets on my nerves. Vive la 5D! :D
