Pushing Lightroom

If you play around with the sliders in Lightroom, you can get some quite extreme effects. In fact, it's possible to get results that look a lot like HDR. I wasn't particularly going for the HDR look with this following shot, just trying to make the best of a shot that was taken handheld from some 30-odd feet away in low light conditions. I kind of like the look and I wondered what everyone else thinks. Throw everything at it short of bricks as I welcome constructive criticism.

It's a little more than that. I got the idea from watching a video by Chris Orwig on pseudo-HDR in Lightroom. I start out by dragging the Recovery to 100%, Fill Light to 70-100%, Clarity to 100%, Vibrance to 70-100% then drag the Blacks up until it gives me a good starting point for playing with curves. If it looks too over the top at this stage, I might drag the Saturation down a little.

Chris puts Recovery, Fill Light, Vibrance, and Contrast at 100% to start with which gives him the pseudo-HDR effect. Since I don't want HDR, I play with the Blacks and the curves sliders to get something more subtle.

My Flickr site has a few more examples, but it would be nice to see some more from other POTNers, especially if you haven't given it a go before. And, while I'm using Lightroom currently, I'm sure that similar effects can be had from ACR and DPP.

Sorry but I think it's a bit too much. The bright blue color distracts from the subjects face and the weird color gradation makes me think "digital/photoshop" instead of looking at the subject.

I would prefer a darker background to isolate the subject more. I guess it's all a matter of taste.

I like it! It's young, fun, fresh. Here's what I got.
