I wish. But I'm on a crop body and have minimal funding.

I think the safest thing to do is wait til photokina blows over.

I agree^^^ I plan on getting a 40D or 50D and the 35L is def going to be my next lens purchase. I think its a great walk around prime for crop. Lucky for me I cant afford it right now so I have no choice but to sit around and wait for the 35 II :(

Hopefully the 35 II won't have a price hike.... I'm sure the Mk 1 would be every ounce as capable!

Why would they make another 35L? First one is perfect.

35 Mk II is definitely coming. If not this year then for PMA. They wouldn't update the 24 with a new coating, new switch, etc, and not do its brother the 35. Who knows if it will be a total redesign but since it is coming out AFTER, I'm going to guess yes, it will also be a re-design.

The build isn't as good as a lot of other L primes, it isn't weather-sealed and it could be better wide open - they updated the 24L for less than that.

Looking at 24L II, 35L II will definitely be around 1500+...I doubt there will be price drop on present 35L

They'd have to perform some magic on the Mark II version for me to give up my 35L for it. The 35L is plenty sharp wide open not to mention stopped down, and has fast, accurate AF. As the 35L is my current favorite lens, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the Mark II though to see what it has to offer.

24L and 35L were rumored to be the next lenses to be updated, and now that the 24L II is here it's looking more likely that the 35L II will follow. The original 24L and 35L were released in consecutive calendar years, and it's reasonable to think the same might be true with the Mark II models.

If you compare the focus speed of either of the Mark I's to the 16-35 Mark II, the zoom has a noticeable advantage besides being handicapped due to the extra elements and weight. I'm sure they can improve the AF of both of the wide primes.

Given the 50% price increase that came with the 24L II I think I'd just buy the 35L I. That sucker would have to be a lot better to justify the jump.

Regardless of a mkII version coming, the current mk I will always be a fine performer and a bit cheaper too. Optically, the 24L II is only a wee bit better than the Mk I (according to the mft charts)
