There are tons of the screens out there and I've thought about this myself for quite some time. While I would not use any of these (in this price range) for critical focus and color I would use them in low light areas to check on composition and the like.

I tried the sony DVD player and found the color on the screen so saturated that I took it back.

If I continue to shoot in mines and the like I'll go for a really nice screen that I can also use with my GL2.

I just tried outputting the display from my 20D to my son's Portable DVD player (Coby TF-DVD7377 $100 from Amazon) and it works!!! If you don't mind viewing your pics at 480x240.

PS: I don't have pics coz I only have one camera. Will post pics in a few days.

I use a Goodmans 7" DVD player (DVDP700W). It's rubbish for fine detail but great for my purposes.

I sell instant prints at events, take shot, show customer on DVD player, if customer is happy with shot it gets loaded onto laptop & if i'm happy with detail it gets printed.

My customers don't normally care about the fine detail they just like to see a larger than normal preview than my tiny 350D screen can show.

If you need to confirm critical detail, forget it & get a laptop. If it's just to review composition & lighting direction go for it!

Wll, I got a LG 8.5" DVD player. Had to get an adaptor to get the video cord to work. The DVD looks amazing!! (Looking for a portable, rechargeable DVD Player?? Get the LG one!!) but sucks for viewing images. Had to try.

The images are stretched and makes it difficult to evaluate properly. Everyone was right about the resolution being too poor for digital photography. Always like to see firsthand and now I have.

So, I think I'm going to buy the Acer Aspire One AOA150-1001 Intel Atom 1GB 160GB 8.9IN LED 1024X600 6CELL XP Home Sapphire Blue Mini-Notebook. Does open flat like a tablet but I can use it for other things. Will probably use it onsite for filling out invoices, quick review of images, updating website and blog while travelling and other business activity. Will also probably invest in a Pentax portable thermal printer for printing invoices while on-site.

Doesn't resolve all of my issues but will be a much better use of money in the long run. Thanks for all the advice and if anyone wants to know what the laptop is like, I'll be glad to post a new thread with pics and first impressions.

How would the Epson 3000 work to view your work before printing??
