Agreed. They are different.

I love my 40D and it is very capable, but 1.6X crop can't do narrow DOF like FF can.

I've posted threads here showing how good 1.6X crop is c/w FF and trying to dispell myths about the 5D, but 1.6X crop can't do DOF like this at these aperatures....(I know because I took the same shot with my 40D and the greater DOF yields a very different looking shot).

do you have shots with the same scene taken by the 5D and 40D? if so, please post - i'm curious to see them

I wouldn't even consider getting a 50D. In fact I'm thinking of skipping the 40D and just going to the 5D.

Someone else posted that won't pay more than $1300, but at least that's a step up from $1000. Can't believe these people are for real?

There are plenty of @ss#oles out there looking for a bargain. Start a few rumors...maybe someone will actually panic. Regardless of what these morons are preaching, the 5D did not self-destruct with the introduction of the 50D and the 5Dmk2. The 5D is still and will remain a fantastic camera for the foreseeable future.

I really don't see a lot of 5Ds on the market at bargain prices. If I owned a 5D I doubt seriously that I would be selling it to buy a 50D. Now the 5D II might be a different story.

I wouldn't panic if I'm a 5D owner, but I did panic a bit and sold my 20D for $400 very recently... ;) Depending on what the latest body offers, I'd say -- speaking strictly for myself -- it's time to upgrade when my camera is of great-great grandpa generation....

Right now $1500 is a decent used price,
many sell for more, some sell with extras for less.

I'd expect when the 5D II ships the 5D used price will reach bottom, then start going up.

It really is a classic camera.

The new anti dust features and larger micro lenses may add up to a softer per pixel image.

And I just bought one for just under $400! It's these panic sales that benefit folk who don't care about the latest and greatest, and instead see an opportunity to buy a $1500 camera for less than $400 :P. So a big thanks to panic .

I'm willing to sell my 5D for $1,000! Here's the deal! Send me a $200(US) deposit and when I'm ready to let my 5D go, I'll email you for the other $800(US). As soon as I get the $800(US) and it clears my bank, the 5D will be shipped ... I'll even include free shipping as well! :) But please note, you may have a looooooong wait for that email requesting the final $800(US) payment. Do we have a deal? :)

Hahhahaha....

A 5D for $1k? Maybe in a year or three. lol

To the contrary, I saw one on Craigslist with a grip and less than 800 clicks for $1050. They actually lowered the price from $1200. I was mulling over it and by the time I was going to contact them the ads were gone and the camera was sold.

By the same logic the G10 would be the one to hurt both the 50D and the 5D. What rippoff those two are.

Are you certain the camera actually sold or was the ad flagged and pulled as a scam?

Lots of people trying to talk it up. All I see is eBay stacked with worried sellers. Heaps of people still trying to talk it up here as well.

I agree $1000 is not a fair price for a used 5D. I will drop my offer to $700.

Let's see who gets in first. Me getting a BRAND NEW one for about $1200 - $1500 or the talkers seeing no depreciation. Rebates on the way.

:lol::lol::lol:
