First shots with Softbox!

Hey guys, I had asked people around here earlier about softboxes and what to get.. I came up with a decision and bought me a Photoflex Medium softbox. Cost me around 150$+ and its well worth it imo! Check em out and CC the bottom 2 shots please =)

Love it. Great color, sharp and a nice price to boot.

So, since I"m learning here. You got the softbox. What light are you using? Did the light come with the softbox? Did you use any other light source for your pictures?

Thank you Scott! Its well worth it. I can't wait to shoot a model with it. Its huge, I will definitely need my assistant haha.

I used a 580 ex II - manual at 1/4th power I believe. I decided to go with 580 EX's instead of big light heads =) They are powerful enough to use F/14

Unless you buy some kind of kit, the light are not sold with the softbox. There are many sizes of softboxes you can buy. There is alot to learn about lighting, but in the lighting section, they cover just about all the questions you could ever think of .

Nice work and congrats on the softbox. The 580ex II puts out a lot of light. I need to look into this softbox. Be great for location shootin!

Yes thats it! I ordered from B&H though. My suggestion is to get a thick and ROBUST lightstand.. mine is flimsy haha. It's bending on the weight.

Don't you need a bracket to allow the flash to fire through the speedring?

I have just ordered some westcott softboxes that use an umbrella style fitment that the flash fits inside.

A bracket to hold the flash head and thats about it. The speedring has a really big opening to shoot through.

I had many questions and what road to take with softboxes but at the end, I figured it out. I was just lost in pieces and requirements. If you shoot with the 580 ex and you have an ST-E2 transmitter, it works just fine. Seems like the infrared goes through the box =)
