"video professionals" don't shoot an entire movie in one clip mate :)

Exactly. And from what Ive read the limitation is 29mins per clip.

It's the lens mount more than anything that is special with the video on the MKII. Then add sensor size and price and it's one of a kind kinda thing-y.

Yes I understand video professionals don't shoot a whole movie in one clip but I would have imagined you normally use more then 15mins per clip. I could be wrong because im not a video professional and the more I think about it the more I see that you could even be hard pressed to shot one continuous 15min clip. :)

From what I hear while the time limit is 29mins the true limiting factor is going to be the 4GB files size and many people are saying that will be reached at around 15mins depending on video content.

I can see why the ability to use all our great EF lenses on the camera is a great feature and that was one of the features I found most attractive when it came to having HD on the new 5D. I still find it hard to believe that this one key feature is what would put it on the same level as a 100k or even 30k video camera but again im happy to be wrong as im no pro when it comes to video. Well... if it's true then im getting one hell of good deal on this new 5D when I pick her up :).

The limit for a full 1080 HD clip is 12 minutes. You can shoot at a lower resolution, vga, for longer.

I seriously doubt that any professional videographer would choose the 5DMII over a professional video cam. On the other hand, a photographer who wanted to augment his/her work with some nice looking video would get the benefits of the high quality lenses and larger sensor IQ, benefits that you would not get from a $3k video camcorder.

I just wanna see how it handles the higher ISO's, like around 6400. Am I one of the minority that just doesn't care about it's video capabilities?

Welcome to the club, mate. I think this is a big gimmick that they've put in to appeal to soccer moms (hockey moms, maybe?) with $3000 laying around to record Snowflake and Junior's every little move. The newspaper I work for won't suddenly hand these out to their VJs and ask for their 25k pro digicams back.

I'm a photographer, give me something to help me create photographs. If I want to do video, I'll get a different machine for that purpose. But since I am a photographer, what will the 5DMKII do for me? I think 21.1 mp is kickass, especially when you want to print big (I do). Again, the expanded ISO range seems like a godsend. I try not to shoot 3200 right now on a 20D cuz that's maxing it out and maxing out is never the best option. If the 5D does 6400 (and then what, 12,800 and 25,600?) than you'd think that it's 3200 would be much clearer than the 20D's. All these questions and more must be answered before I consider buying this camera, which I have to admit, at first glance, does look pretty sick.

This is what I was thinking but I can't be sure because I don't deal with any areas that need video.

I' am also with the group that could care less for the video function and would have loved it if they used whatever amount of R&D money went into the video to bring us a newer AF system (not expecting 1 series AF).

I do respect some people are really excited over this whole video mode but I'm not one of them, I just want to buy it for what looks to be a improved photo stills capability.

I can see that it does seem to be a good value for money feature but don't buy the whole hype that it will be on par with true pro video cameras costing 10's of times more.

This is getting so redundant seeing 'I don't need video period in a pro still camera'.

I'll bet $5000.00 after they see the photo's of a cute kid doing his thing vs video of kid during a BBQ party that they will maybe get the point. Heck, you should see how they all crack up watching the mini clip from my G5. They would die seeing it 1080.

Just like the recent couple who took a heli flight over Hawaii after they were married using a typical DSLR, I'll bet $10,000 they said, 'I wish we could video this'.

The best part is not having to process mini dv. What a pain that is.

Soccer moms eh?
I personally know a professional wedding couple who are ordering 2 of these and will be adding the video to their packages which means more $$$ for them.

Same with these guys.

And unless soccer moms are shooting feature film like movies from choppers...

Definitely not a gimmick.

Where do I sign-up for these 5&10k bets and when can I expect delivery of my cash, I hope before the 5Dm2 hits stores, it will be on the house :).

Also sorry to sound redundant but no I don't NEED video in a photography camera, that's not what I buy it for, the video is a nice little extra for me and nothing more, apart from testing it out I'll be surprised if I use it much at all but I'm sure some other people are really looking forward to the feature and will put it to good use.

Heh! The good news is that if you don't want to use the video, then you don't need to use it, and it subtracts nothing from the quality of the 5DM2! Isn't that cool?

From what I've seen, this body will deliver the best in terms of resolution/IQ performance of any DSLR on the market (note, not digital MF). The AF design was to many of us an unfortunate decision by Canon, but taken as a whole this will be a dynamite body whether you use the video or not!

Of couse, it could be a real treat to take a video with, say, the 85 f/1.2 or of wildlife with one of our great super telephoto lenses, but, hey, I don't need to do that, I can live without it, if I get the 5DM2 I will resist the temptation, you bet I will:)!

Does your paper have a website?

Don't bet the rent on what they will or won't ask you to do... ;)

Last I heard, most local papers were switching out all of their photo gear for iphones.
