New Firmware for 50D! 1.0.3 Finally!

I'm as giddy as a school girl.

Changes:

1. Corrects a phenomenon in which an image becomes overexposed when C.Fn.II-3 Highlight tone priority is set to "1" together with other camera settings. (This correction has already been incorporated in the Version 1.0.2 and later firmware.
   
2. Corrects a rare phenomenon in which "busy" blinks on the camera's display panel and the shutter cannot be released due to the timing of battery installation.
   
3. Corrects a rare phenomenon in which "Err 99" appears on the camera's display panel and LCD monitor and the shutter cannot be released due to the timing of pressing the shutter button.

i hear you on that one. i also work for a software company and if i said
" this is a rare phenomenon" everytime somebody reported an issue, i would have been fired a long time ago

I work for a software company as well. I guess software geeks and photography go together.

Hmmm I like photography, but I dont work for a software company, I am just a retired old fart. However I sure hope this update fixes that "rare phenomenon".

I have to wonder what they mean by "timing of battery installation"? Odd.

so did anybody notice a high ISO noise improvement?

I really hope this takes care of the problems and allows people to enjoy an otherwise wonderful camera.

I have taken several thousand shots with no problem at all and I have 1.0.2. so my question is do I update to 1.0.3 or just leave it as it is as I've had no problems with the version I'm currently using? Thanks

Don't change it if your happy. Wait until 1.0.4 and check for more changes.

Remember it's just a "rare phenomenon".

Where I work, one of our programmers once commented upon a bug report by saying "I don't see that as a problem".

I've had my 50D for 5 days and shot about 500 images so far, using M, Av and Tv modes and plenty of buffer filling raw bursts as well as individual shots. Most of my shooting has been with my 70-200 f/2.8 IS and 10-22 but I have also fired off a few test shots with my 50/1.8, 17-55, 17-85 and 100-400 (with/without Kenko 1.4X).

So far I have seen no problems whatsoever. The camera came with firmware 1.02. I must admit that usually I am quick to upgrade frmware just as soon as I am aware of its release, but on this occasion I will be waiting a while. I've never heard anything as ridiculous as this "timing of battery insertion" or "timing of shutter release". What are they talking about? Should I insert the battery after I want to shoot? Should I release the shutter at random rather than when the decisive moment appears? Perhaps you shouldn't change batteries in the afternoon, or take pictures in the morning. What happens if you change time zones but don't update the clock? How will the camera know when to display an ERR99? This is nuts!
