take it in to canon.

not sure how it is in your part of the world, but usually, consumer laws mean that a 12month warranty isn't strictly 365 days...so if your lens is on the blink 1 week after the warranty nominally ends, it would probably still be covered...

That sucks... call canon quick, they might repair for free. I heard of some that had that experience with canon.

I also heard that they even fix it after couple months too! IS is known to break down on the 1755! Maybe they will send you the updated IS :) good luck and let us know!

Sorry to hear of your problems with your lens. I'm very close to buying that lens but the problems with the IS failing is keeping my finger from hitting the buy button for now.

I don't think there is an updated IS version is there? It would be nice if Canon would sack up and make the IS a bit more durable.

I had a 100-400 two months past warranty and they did a courtesy repair.

how do you get them to do a courtesy repair? did you send the warranty card in with it, and the date of purchase? or did they just take your word?

By the way, there seems to be a problem with the IS on my 17-55 too. When switched on, the images is very soft at the left and bottom of the image.

Canon said this particular problem is unheard of, I'll be sending it in.

Like others have said, call Canon and they will most likely still repair it for free

Alright, here's whats happening. I just called canon at 1800 828 4040

He said there's usually a grace period with the warranty and that all I need is my sales receipt (i dont have my warranty card with me)

I'm gonna send it in and they usually take 7-10 days to fix it, 2 days to ship it, so with my own initial shipment, its going to take about 2 weeks total.

Lets see how this turns out huh

As part of my job, I've seen a lot of corporate internal warranty policies. Every one that I've seen has a "goodwill" provision that will cover repairs for failures that happen shortly after the warranty expires. This include car companies, BTW. You just have to ask.
