Hi,

I did post this in another area, but it was recommended i posted here.

Right, I'm really keen on buying a DSLR camera, but have no idea where to start. I already have a Canon IXUS 75 and love it, but am becoming increasingly frustrated with not being able to get the kinda shots i want.

So what would you recommend for a DSLR beginner. I know this sort of stuff doesnt come cheap, but think of my pocket as well! lol

Looking at the photos i've taken, I enjoy, macro shots, landscape and still life....i like taking photos of things basically. :D

I know this equipment is expensive, could probably go for about £300 to start with and then build up other stuff in the future.

Thanks

+2 - a terrific deal. Avoid the XS and XT as they have inferior focusing system. Even an XTi is a good deal.

Remember, if you are careful, and use cashback, you can get $200 off a cam on ebay - just be careful of the seller and do your homework on the prices.

If you wouldn't mind, please, tell me about this $200 eBay deal?

Check the Marketplace section, there are a few posts about it. Basically you sign up for a live.com account, and anything you buy on ebay that is BIN that you pay with paypal is eligible for up to $200 cash back. You have to wait 60 days to get your money back though.

-edit-

Thrash beat me to it!

For someone starting out, you can find excellent deals on an XTi--there are some lightly used ones available that would save you even more money. The kit lens isn't great, but a lot of folks are excited about the EF-S 55-250 IS because of its huge focal range and relatively cheap price. If you're patient, you might pick up that combo (separately) for under $500.

Once you've developed your skills, you can add better lenses or look to upgrade bodies. But that's probably your most economical entry to the DSLR field.

yup, used xti is your best camera per price deal right now I'd say. or a used 20d...they go for roughly the same price used....
